A couple was yesterday arraigned in a Nakuru court and charged with killing their daughter.

Mr Emmanuel Kiprotich Sigei together with his wife Irene Nalomita Sigei are being accused of killing Brenda Chepkorir Sigei at Nasitori village on February 6 this year.

The two, who appeared in court nursing injuries they sustained after being manhandled by local people, told the court they could not plead to the charges since they had not undergone mental assessment.

The court heard that the two have been married for two years and have a six-month-old son. The couple allegedly schemed to kill the girl, who is from a previous relationship.

The two said those who assaulted them forced them to confess to killing their young girl.

Lady Justice Hellen Omondi in her ruling ordered that the couple be taken to Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital to undergo mental assessment and be treated for their injuries.

The judge ordered the case to be heard on February 28 this year.
