#2 Crystal Cave: Skaftafell, Iceland

Wow, how is this possible? Believe it or not, the ice cavern is formed when a lagoon above it freezes over. Additionally, it sits within a glacier and is created by waterfalls melting holes into the ice while the water drains down to lower elevations, all the while forming long tunnels and ice caves. Beautiful!

#3 Lechuguilla Cavez: National Park, New Mexico

Doesn't it look like a scene out of a Dr. Seuss story? Actually, it's the fifth longest cave in the world, and famously known for its rare mineral formations of gypsum and lemon-yellow sulfur deposits. Most folks will have to experience the cave through pictures, as it's only available to approved scientific researchers and exploration teams.

#4 Marble Caves: Puerto Río Tranquilo, Chile

Swaths of turquoise almost appear like a painting in this incredible spot! The way to view this breathtaking vision is on a hired boat from December to February during Puerto Rio's high tourists season. Located on Lake General Carrera, there are a series of watery marble caverns that cross over Chile's border into Buenos Aires.

#5 Cave of Swallows: Schwalbenhöhle, Mexico

Cave of Swallows is so deep, it's often said that the Chrysler building could easily fit within it. Its opening is the largest known in the world and entering it is not a small feat, hence the skydiver! Deceptive of its name, there are an abundance of various bird species living in holes on the cave walls.

#6 Eisriesenwelt Cave: Werfen, Austria

It's known amongst the world's largest of caves, and the name translates into the "World of the Ice Giants"! It's an underworld ice phenomenon located in the Alps and was created by the Salzach river flowing through it nearly 100 million years ago. Before its discovery, locals thought the caves's entrance led to Hell, so it remained unexplored until in 1912.

#7 Reed Flute Cave: Guilin, Guangxi, China

This psychedelic wonderland in China is a limestone cave of surreal shapes and natural colors. Being a popular tourist destination, it's enhanced further with the help of an artificial light show. The cavern dates back over 180 million years, and contains written inscriptions from as far back as 792 AD, during the Tang Dynasty (618-907).

#8 Huanglong Cave: Hunan, China

A stunning walkway bridge gives us a great perspective of the size of this cavern. Covering over 120 acres with depths unverified, the CITS website amazingly mentions that its entrance is just about 6.6 feet wide. Visitors have to descend vertically into the cave on a timber ladder! It's also known as a "Buddha Cave", as it houses three Buddha statues built in the Ming Dynasty (1368 -1644).

#9 Cave of Crystals: Chihuahua, Mexico

Do those explorers appear extra tiny?! The scale of these monstrous crystal formations is what science fiction is made-up of! Unfortunately, they're deteriorating and scientists are rushing to document them.

Man Exchanges His 15yr Old Son For 2 Bags Of Rice

Man Exchanges His 15yr Old Son For 2 Bags Of Rice
A yet to be identified man on Monday successfully traded a 15-year old boy, Seun Aderinwale, for 2 bags of rice valued at N20,000 at Igando in Alimosho area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.

According to eyewitness account, the man, whose address is unknown, went to 4, Ifesowapo Street, Igando, on Monday morning to buy two bags of rice from a shop owned by a woman identified as Iya Ibrahim.

The rice seller was not available at the time but her son, Ibrahim, agreed to the man’s proposal to drop Seun, an Aluminium apprentice, as collateral, in order to collect the two bags of rice and return later to pay.

However, when the shop owner returned in the afternoon, she was surprised to see Seun who was dropped there in exchange for the two bags of rice taken away by the unidentified man.

When the man failed to return, the 15-year old was held hostage until evening when the pastor of his church, a Celestial Church of Christ around the area, saw him at the shop looking despondent.

When Seun was questioned on how he came about the fraudster, he said he met him casually at Hotel Bus Stop about 300 metres to his residence where a church member had sent him on an errand to play lotto, popularly known as “Baba Ijebu”.

Seun said he did not know the man’s house or have other information about him.

The teenager later regained his freedom when the Celestial Church pastor, known simply as Oluso in the neighborhood, settled the matter with Iya Ibrahim, the rice seller.

He said the woman should take responsibility for one of the stolen bags of rice while Seun’s father, a co-worker with him in the church, should pay for the other bag of rice when he returned from his trip to Ifo in Ogun State. Seun’s father agreed to pay N10,000 for the bag of rice when he returned from Ifo.

P.M.NEWS learnt that the rice seller agreed to the pastor’s proposal and did not report the matter to the police.
“If I report the incident to the police, I cannot leave the station without spending money.

Therefore, it is better for me to accept the proposal by Oluso, the rice seller told residents who gathered in front of her shop to watch the drama.

When Ibrahim was questioned why he allowed such an unusual arrangement, he told residents that the conman asked for two and half bags of rice, adding, “when the motorcycle was about to go with the
two bags, I asked for the money but Seun assured me he was coming back for the half bag.

He even claimed to be a close relation of the man.” However, some hours after the man had disappeared and failed to return, Ibrahim said Seun retracted his earlier statement, saying he did not know the man.

A boarding school in Marsabit, Kenya:where girls live with poor hosts and boys sleep on skins

As the bell tolls at 6pm signalling the end of the learning day at El Gade primary, pupils pick their books to leave for home. Talaso Tura Diba, dressed in a pink blouse, long green skirt and a pair of sandals made from tyres, walks past the wire mesh gate. In her hand, hangs a paper bag with exercise books. Diba, 15, walks for almost one kilometre to get to her new home, which is one among few manyattas. In the manyatta, Diba sojourns with strangers. Her thirst for education saw her leave her Gocha village, over 35km away, to study at El Gade Primary located in Kalacha Location, North Horr Constituency within Marsabit County.  “I want to study hard, become a doctor and help people who are sick in our village. There are no doctors in our village,” she begins.

She continues: “My home is very far and l could not travel to and from school every day. Since there are no boarding facilities in the school, l decided to live with a stranger close to the school just to realise my dream.” Seek accommodation Head teacher Shamo Keya says the school has 255 pupils – 155 boys and 100 girls. He explains that 67 pupils – 47 boys and 20 girls – are from areas as far as 50km away and cannot make it to school every day. The school decided to seek accommodation for them within the neighbourhood. “We pleaded with neighbours to accept and host 20 girls as we look for means to keep them in school in future,” he says adding that, thankfully, they accepted. He discloses that the 47 boys temporarily slept in one of the classes until two years ago when North Horr Constituency constructed a dormitory using Constituency Development Fund (CDF) money - unfortunately, they did not provide bedding. A visit to the dormitory reveals that the 47 pupils using the boarding facility sleep on dried skins, cartons, old sacks and even paper bags.

“I wish we had a dormitory,” says Diba who is in Standard Eight. They have no light to study in the evening. They also have no stationery. The boys who sleep in the dormitory suffer a lot, especially at night because it is normally very cold. Despite the hardships, the school built in 2000 by North Horr Catholic Mission, tried its best and in last year’s KCPE exams, its top pupil Isacko Bora Afira scored 381 marks and is now admitted at Alliance High School. The last pupil had 247 marks. In 2012, the school had 28 candidates – five girls and 23 boys. Last year it had 12 candidates – nine boys and three girls. The headmaster is appealing to the Government and well wishers to help children from pastoral communities realise their dreams.

Mavuno Church Pastor Speaks About The ‘Offensive’ Poster

Pastor Mureithi Mavuno-Church

It was an interesting morning on radio today as the Maina & King’ang’i breakfast show once again took on what has become a very controversial topic thanks to the now all famous Mavuno Church after they put up what was termed as an offensive poster to announce a youth service.
Today Mavuno Church pastor, Pastor Mureithi alias pastor M and Kanji went live to explain the reasons as to why they decided on this particular poster. It was a heated debate as the public called to express their dissappointment as others sort to show support for the course Mavuno Church has taken.
Truth is it seems like sex talks are okay as long as it is out of church. I totally get where Mavuno Church was coming from when they decided to go this far with their advertising. As much as we choose not to talk about it, sex is real and it is there even in the said churches. Young boys and girls are busy engaging in sex hardly before they hit puberty, and if parents have chosen not to take charge in their children’s lives, the church is just but trying to bridge the gap and do what everyone else seems to have failed to do.
In his part Pastor Mureithi apologized for anyone who may have been offended by the poster and explained that he had the best interest at heart. Mureithi said,
“The Church has become hotel for saints instead of a hospital for sinners”
Think of what has been happening lately in our churches and then put yourself in the shoes of someone whose calling is to make a positive change in society. What would you do?
